Other Opportunities

So, we still only have 2 people, including me. We need five to go on the trip. We just need three more people... which is a pretty difficult figure, actually. We're working on it- we don't want to miss this.

Also, this week I found out about a scholarship opportunity to study and live abroad for one year next year. If I get the scholarship, I will be sent to one of the following countries:

• Egypt
• Ghana
• India
• Indonesia
• Malaysia
• Thailand
• Turkey

It's a program funded by the State Department, and 35 students are given full scholarships. I'm applying for one of them. I'm really excited, but also pretty anxious. I am trying not to get my hopes up too much because it is an opportunity for teenagers all over the country. The application deadline is 2/2/09 and I should find out in late February whether I am a semifinalist or not. If I am a semifinalist, they bring me to Houston (all expenses paid) for interviews and such. My friend Morgan is also applying.

Recruiting!

So, right now there are still only two other HS students with their deposits in. Olivia (the other girl) and I have been trying to persuade people to go... but with the economy, it's hard. We thought we had our friend Burke, but she also skis, and she has to pay for her own races. She'd also have to pay for the trip... so she's pretty sure she can't come. We also talked to Camille, a senior, but she's leaving for Europe with Shelby during the time we'd be gone. Basically, anyone with even a slight curiosity about the trip has been overwhelmed by our enthusiasm and encouragement. We need more people!
